Grant Denyer to join Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee on 2Day FM Breakfast next year

Grant Denyer is the third and final member announced as part of 2Day FM’s breakfast team for 2018.

SCA announced this news this morning, which will see Ten’s Family Feud host Denyer, join former Triple M breakfast host Ed Kavalee and Em Rusciano on Sydney breakfast in 2018.

Kavalee was announced as Harley Breen’s replacement last month, after Breen decided he would leave the station after less than a year.

Hit Netowork’s Gemma Fordham, however, had alluded to ‘further enhancements’ to the show in her last interview with Mumbrella.

Rusciano’s show – The Em Rusciano Radio Show with Harley Breen – finished a week earlier than the official ratings period, with Rusciano telling listeners they needed to focus on what to do next year.

Across the year, ratings for the show varied from a 3.3% audience share to 4.1%. In the most recent survey, the show fell 0.4 points to a 2.9% share.

Hit Network’s Fordham, said she was thrilled Denyer would join the show: “He is one of the country’s most energetic personalities and was a dynamo on breakfast TV and reshaped the landscape. When it comes to entertaining Aussies his instincts are spot on and I know he is the perfect addition to brighten up Sydney’s morning alongside Em and Ed.”

Rusciano said she was delighted to have “the blonde bombshell, glamorous bogan and Australia’s best friend” join the show. Kavalee described him as one of the biggest names in Australian showbiz.

“We have a brand-new microphone and booster seat ready to go (that was a short joke),” Kavalee said.

Denyer said of his new appointment: “I’m told breakfast radio is even more dangerous than race car driving and I fractured my bum and almost died doing that this year….so, what could go wrong!!! I won’t need the booster seat Ed because it’s in my contract I get to sit on your knee. P.S I’ve already got dibs on driving our Mardi Gras float. Their lap times are ridiculous.”

Kavalee and Denyer are the 10th and 11th breakfast show hosts for Sydney breakfast since the departure of Kyle and Jackie O.

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson moved their market-leading FM show from 2Day FM to Australian Radio Network’s rebranded Kiis FM in 2014.

They were replaced by Sophie Monk, Jules Lund, Merrick Watts and initially Mel B, but the show failed to halt the decline in ratings. Dan Debuf and Maz Compton were then brought into the breakfast slot before being dumped at the end of 2015. Rove McManus and Sam Frost then joined but were axed from the breakfast slot at the end of 2016 for Rusciano and Breen.

Hit network will also have a new national drive show next year, with Kiis FM’s Kate Langbroek and Dave Hughes to join the network.

2Day FM breakfast with Em, Grant and Ed will be on-air from January 15.
