Great Australian Spelling Bee lifts but comes fourth in its slot as House Husbands dips

Ten’s new show The Great Australian Spelling Bee has lifted its audience marginally on last week with 662,000 metro viewers last night, up from 655,000 last week.

However, the result still saw the show come in at fourth in its 7.30pm prime-time timeslot.

The children’s spelling contest could not match for Nine’s reality cooking show The Hotplate which drew 902,000 viewers on a night when no program, outside of news and current affairs drew over the million mark.

The 6.30pm slot of the Nine News bulletin drew the highest audience of Monday night with Oztam overnight metro ratings reporting 1.204m viewers compared with 1.073m for Seven in the slot.

In the first half hour of the 6pm news it was a closer match up with 1.182m for Nine News and 1.078m for Seven.

Over on the ABC the story of Geraldine Cox’s work in orphanages in Cambodia drew 886,000 viewers at 8pm while Seven’s Highway Patrol drew 837,000 at 7.30pm and then 708,000 for Motorway Patrol.

In the 8.30pm slot, the second episode of the new series of House Husbands on Nine drew 813,000, down on the 855,000 viewers it had last week.

Nine won the night in terms of overall audience main channel share with 21.3 per cent, Seven had 17.4 per cent while the ABC had 16.5 per cent and Ten had 12.5 per cent.
