Greenpeace’s YouTube account suspended due to copyright notice from Lucas Films
Greenpeace International has had its YouTube account suspended due to a copyright infringement notice from Lucas Films, the maker of Star Wars.
The move follows a Greenpeace ad that pastiched Volkswagen’s award-winning ‘The Force’ spot, in which a boy is dressed as Star Wars villain Darth Vadar.
In Greenpeace’s ad, the NGO accuses VW of having “a dark side” because it opposes cuts to carbon emissions.
In Australia and New Zealand, Greenpeace Pacific operates a separate YouTube account, which is unaffected by the suspension.

That is very very cool, love it.

The ad, not the suspension!

the original ad wasn’t even that good. Good on Greenpeace for keeping VW on their toes- they love to present themselves as being green.

Love that. sure they don’t give two hoots about YouTube suspending their account – nice little publicity hook for them really.
Lando Calrissian is brilliant!

Genius.
Launch social media campaign with deliberate copyright infringement.
Await take down notice – and then make that the story.
Do a press release and then everyone like SMH will write about it…. or will they?
They covered Kit Kat:

They covered Barbie:

But they haven’t covered this yet… bit tricky as VW have a pop-up on their home page today.

Good publicity for Greens. Wonder if they will sue for millions and close them down and save us?
