Guardians crosses $3m line
Legend of the Guardians (Roadshow) surpassed the $3m mark but lost altitude, falling from the second to the third spot with $954,513, while Tomorrow, When the War Began (Paramount) left the top 10 on its sixth weekend.
Despite receiving mostly negative reviews, Sony’s female self-improvement fantasy Eat Pray Love devoured the box office and became the number one film in Australia, with $3.47m.

In the US, the Animal Logic animated feature Legend of the Guardians had a 36.7 drop, earning U$6,888,019 from 3,225 screens (average U$2,136). It fell from number two to number four, thanks to new releases Life As We Know It (Warner) and Secretariat (Disney). After three weeks, its total stands at U$39,273,984.
According to Box Office Mojo, its worldwide box office is U$65,373,984 (from a reported U$100m budget). Several major territories are pending in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Also in the US, Mao’s Last Dancer added $183,230 (a 30.5 percent drop) from 121 screens. It has made U$3,737,348 in eight weeks.
Another Australian release, Animal Kingdom, made a further U$9,746 from 26 screens, for a U$918,090 total – in nine weeks.
I didn’t even like the preview of Eat Pray Love, sickly smiles from Roberts, patronising behaviour, shall avoid this film at all costs. Sad to think it is apparently so popular.
