Hacks to debate flacks at CommsCon
Sean Aylmer, editor-in-chief of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald, the Media & Entertainment Alliance’s future of journalism campaign leader Marcus Strom and Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes will take part in a panel debate on the future of journalism and how it affects the communications industry at next week’s CommsCon event.
The session will be moderated by Simon Canning who was marketing and advertising writer on The Australian from 2003 to 2012, and is also a former editor of AdBrief.
The panel will discuss issues such as the best way to approach journalists in the age of the 24-hour news cycle, the potential impact of bloggers becoming more trusted by consumers than mainstream mastheads, what the media landscape will look like in the years to come, and if the press release is well and truly dead, what replaces it?
Aylmer was promoted to editor-in-chief of the Fairfax Media’s Sydney flagship last year. He is also a former editor of BRW.
Strom joined journalists’ union the Media Alliance in July last year. He was previously deputy foreign editor on the SMH.
