HCF launches second season of its Navigating Parenthood podcast series

HCF has launched the second season of its podcast series, Navigating Parenthood, this time focusing on ‘Talking to Teens’.

The announcement:

Australia’s largest and most trusted not-for-profit health fund, HCF, is excited to announce the release of the second season of its award-winning podcast, Navigating Parenthood – Talking to Teens, produced in collaboration with content and publishing agency, Hardie Grant Media.

In season two, six switched-on teens and experts tell us what it means to grow up and get by in 2020: mates, dates, self-esteem, study stress, true grief and the grief we give them.

Brisbane journalist and best-selling author Rebecca Sparrow is the host of the new season. Rebecca conducts intimate discussions with these everyday teenagers to help unearth the key challenges they’re facing in a warm and friendly environment with no judgement or shame.

“If we want to be close to our teens, we need to start listening”, Rebecca says. “This podcast is a great start. Listen and hear these teenagers. You will hear your own kids or their friends in their stories”, says Rebecca.

HCF’s goal of the new season is to help parents navigate the teenage years and to encourage open dialogues and create lasting connections with their children. The progressive podcast covers prevalent and important issues for teens and their parents, from depression, eating disorders and bullying, to sex and consent, building resilience and losing a parent.

HCF’s Chief Officer of Business Growth, Greg McAweeney, says, “Parents can easily find resources on how to raise their children, but their own needs as individuals are often side-stepped or fall down the priority list. There needs to be just as much emphasis on developing and sharing information that supports parents and provides reassurance that parenthood isn’t perfect,” says Mr McAweeney.

“We want to explore the ups and downs of parenting, so parents feel supported and understand they are not alone. The HCF podcast series aims to share frank information from experts and teenagers themselves. By doing so we hope to help start and grow conversations between parents and their teenagers.”

Sophie Knox from Hardie Grant Media explains how HCF’s priority was the welfare of the teens throughout the production process and the high level of care applied every step of the way.

“It was important to honour HCF’s intention to put teens in the spotlight by being rigorous and responsible through each part of the process,” says Sophie. “From finding the right host in Rebecca Sparrow, who was the supreme conduit for these important discussions and ensuring the most appropriate language was used when discussing mental illness to inviting carers and mental health experts to be part of the scripting and recording processes”, says Sophie.
