Hearts & Science promotes OMD’s Jonathan Betts to chief experience officer

Omnicom Media Group’s newest media agency in the local market, Hearts & Science, has found talent from within the group to appoint its first chief experience officer.

Jonathan Betts has previously been with OMD for four years, working with clients including McDonald’s. He will take on the role at Hearts & Science in August.

Betts commences his new role on 1 August

Prior to his time with Omnicom Media Group, Betts spent time at Zenith as business director, and Mediacom as head of digital.

The holding group said Betts was the ideal candidate for the role, based on his in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the industry and media planning, as well as his experience in data and technology.

His role will span Sydney and Melbourne, and will cover all aspects of planning, media strategy, data-driven insights and related processes.

Betts will report to CEO of Hearts & Science Australia, Jeremy Bolt, who said: “I have worked closely with Jon during my time at Annalect, and can see the depth of experience, capability, knowledge and innovation he brings to clients to help them win with data. A capability and way of thinking core to the Hearts proposition.”

Betts, who beings the new role on 1 August, added: “I have observed the creation of Hearts & Science and its appeal to data-driven advertisers with great interest. I feel privileged to have the chance to join a talented and ambitious team as they build this business in Australia.”

At the same time, Betts’ former agency, OMD, has appointed Mike Worden to replace him and lead the McDonald’s account.

Worden joins OMD from UM

Worden joins OMD from UM, where he was group business director across Johnson & Johnson, Lego, MLA and AMP.

CEO of OMD, Aimee Buchanan, was full of praise for both men.

“I’m excited for Jon. He has done an amazing job leading the McDonald’s business over the past four years, and he thoroughly deserves his promotion,” she said.

“I look forward to welcoming Mike into the OMD family. With his strong business acumen and experience in leading high-performing teams, Mike is a perfect fit for OMD to lead the McDonald’s business.”

Worden added: “I’m incredibly excited to be putting my expertise and energy into leading the McDonald’s business. Macca’s is an iconic brand who have a great relationship with OMD, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build on this partnership into the future.”
