The announcement:

Award-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist, TV presenter and former Victorian multicultural commissioner Helen Kapalos has joined medicinal cannabis group Australian Natural Therapeutics Group as director of communications and community.

Kapalos’ role will cover communications strategy and campaigns, stakeholder engagement, developing social policy and continuing her advocacy work for medicinal cannabis patients.

ANTG CEO Matt Cantelo said: “Helen’s appointment is another win for the team at ANTG. She is a highly regarded broadcaster whose efforts to break down the stigma about plant-based medicine continue to positively influence communities everywhere.”

The former broadcaster directed, produced and wrote a feature film detailing the medicinal cannabis debate in 2015, sharing testimonials and insights from the scientific and medical community. ‘A Life of Its Own’ is an educational documentary on the topic that is still being broadcast on streaming platform Binge.

Kapalos said: “I am thrilled to be joining the team at ANTG and see this role as an extraordinary opportunity to increase awareness through education and advocacy. I want to help bring clarity to an important conversation about our healthcare”.

Whilst research into the efficacy and effects of plant-based medicines, including medicinal cannabis, for certain treatments is increasing, it is currently in its early days. Australian Natural Therapeutics Group advises people to speak with a health professional for advice before making any decisions about treatment options. For the latest and accurate information on medicinal cannabis, please refer to the Therapeutic Goods Act (TGA) website.

Formed in 2015, ANTG came about following personal experiences of the founder and CEO. It now produces X varieties of medicinal cannabis flower that are Australian grown and has launched X oils in the market. It also partners with the University of Newcastle and Western Sydney University, to unlock the potential of medicinal cannabis in the fight against cancer, dementia and inflammation.
