Henry Tajer joins Amazon Media Group as managing director

Media agency stalwart and former global CEO of IPG Mediabrands, Henry Tajer, has joined Amazon Australia as the managing director of Amazon Media Group.

Until now, Tajer had been on gardening leave following his ousting from the top job at IPG Mediabrands in May last year.

Tajer: Now managing director at Amazon Media Group in Australia

Before he was global CEO of IPG Mediabrands, Tajer was chief operating officer for the global group and executive chairman of the media agency network’s Australian operations.

He also spent time at Universal McCann as CEO of Australia and president of APAC, and at Zenith Media as national trading director.

Amazon launched its Australian retail operations in December last year, and has been rolling out its premium offering and video streaming service Amazon Prime.

AMG sells Amazon’s ad assets and works with agencies and brands to “increase sales, drive brand awareness, and build relationships with their customers across display, mobile, video, programmatic, and self-service solutions”.

According to Digiday, Amazon’s ad revenue has grown 132% year on year and is now worth around $2bn.

Digiday also reports while Amazon has been working with agencies in the US, it has been increasingly approaching brands directly and looking for direct deals.

Tajer has confirmed the appointment but was unable to comment.

Amazon has been approached for comment.
