Herald sales director Guy Johnson leaves after 17 years with Fairfax

Guy Johnson, advertising director of Herald Publications, is leaving the Fairfax at the end of the financial year after 17 years with the company. No announcement has been made on a replacement.

Meanwhile, Fairfax has continued its restructure with appointments and new roles following the appointment of Ed Harrison as commercial director of Fairfax’s metro division just over a fortnight ago.

“In his 17 years with Fairfax, Guy has made a huge contribution to the business,” said Harrison. “I’m pleased that we will be able to use Guy’s experience and knowledge over the coming weeks while we make the transition to the new commercial structure.”

Michael Riach, previously general manager of display sales at The Age, shifts to the combined role of general manager of print sales and sales director for Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

Paul Sigaloff, previously national sales director at Fairfax Digital, moves to general manager of digital sales and sales director for New South Wales. In the latter role, Sigaloff will manage all agency sales teams in Sydney.

Riach and Sigaloff will manage teams of sales people responsible for the digital, magazine and newspaper properties of Fairfax’s newly formed Metro Media arm. The teams will be organised around media agency groups.

Three new roles have also been created for which an internal and external selection process is underway: sales director, products and audiences; director creative solutions; and national trade marketing director. Each will report to Harrison.

Harrison added: “We know that the future of our business lies in our ability to provide clients with advertising solutions that touch audiences across our portfolio of valuable newspaper, magazine and online brands. We also need to maintain the specialist skills that have made Fairfax Media so successful in each of these areas. The new structure will ensure that we achieve this all-important balance.”
