Hey Hey It’s Saturday to take a break

Hey Hey It’s Saturday is to take a break until later in the year, Nine said tonight, although it insisted that was always the plan.

The last programme in the current run will be the July 21 episode featuring Kylie Minogue.

Although the return of Hey Hey It’s Saturday originally pulled in more than 2m for its two specials last year, the series return made a debut of 1.5m in April this year and faded to 801,000 last week.

Tonight’s episode is likely to pull in a smaller audience yet because of being pushed into a later slot in Sydney and Brisbane by State of Origin.

Nine programming director Michael Healy said: “Daryl and the Hey Hey team have done a terrific job with the show in a really competitive environment. We always planned for the season to be in two bursts at the beginning and end of the year and it is a great tribute to the team that they have secured Kylie Minogue one of Australia’s most outstanding performers to appear on the final show for the first half run.”
