Host bows out of Virgin Mobile ad review
Host has taken itself out of the running for Virgin Mobile’s advertising account, leaving 303 and Publicis Mojo on the shortlist.
As the incumbent, Host has worked with the mobile operator for ten years.
Anthony Freedman, the agency’s CEO, said: “I am proud of the long and successful relationship we have enjoyed with Virgin Mobile but after ten years I felt we had lost the special ingredient that makes for a successful future relationship and without that I thought it would be better to withdraw from the pitch.”
The ad review is being led by Ant Hearne, Virgin Mobile marketing director.
Last year, the agency launched an ad campaign to push Virgin’s new “Members Welcome” brand platform.
It was part of the telco’s strategy to make its customers feel like members of a club, including discounts to music events and phone credit when they fly on the Virgin Blue network.
Australia doesn’t produce much world-class work.
Host combined with The Glue Society did for Virgin Mobile over the last 10 years.

(not the same Andy M as above)
I had the pleasure of working with Host whilst I was at Virgin Mobile and they did a fantastic job of putting Virgin Mobile on the map with some outstanding work. A great team to work with, along with the guys at Glue Society. They have travelled a fair distance since then and it is always a tough decision to turn your back on a client…but probably a smart one.

I heard that Dynamix had also walked about from Virgin Mobile’s BTL work. Is there trouble brewing at Virgin Mobile?

Don’t forget, Droga 5 also chose to stop working with Virgin Mobile. That makes three. Interesting, huh?
