HuffPost Australia brings journalist David Barden on board as editor
HuffPost appears to be investing in its local editorial operations once more with the appointment of David Barden to an editor’s role. Barden was previously a journalist for the site back in 2016 and 2017.
Despite Barden’s appointment, the site is still without a local lead editor, which has been the case since the departure of Josh Butler back in March.
The local iteration of what was once known at the Huffington Post has been the subject of a number of challenges over the past year, with its joint venture with Fairfax ending in November.
Barden: Returning to HuffPost Australia
Since December 1, HuffPost has been operating as a standalone venture, with some staff members redeployed into Fairfax and others made redundant.
In February, former associate editor Josh Butler was promoted to editor of the title, however by March he announced he was joining Ten’s publishing play, Ten Daily, as senior reporter.
Despite his editor’s title, Barden will not directly replace the lead role left by Butler.
Barden’s previous experience includes working as a liaison producer at Australian News Channel (the parent company of Sky News), his time as a journalist, trends writer and weekend front page editor at HuffPost, and a stint working with Olympic Committees including as media and communications co-ordinator for the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia and content writer for the 2018 Australian Olympic Team on behalf of the Australian Olympic Committee.
Barden has been approached for comment.
