The Hunger Games continues to dominate as Jennifer Lawrence’s Serena debuts at 10th place
Actress Jennifer Lawrence had two films in the top ten weekend box office as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 continues to dominate at the box office in its second weekend, whilst drama Serena took $198,603 across 148 screens in its opening weekend to take out the 10th place in the rankings.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 raised $5.772m across 574 screens over the weekend, taking its total Australia box office takings to more than $20m in just over a week. It was well ahead of its closet rival Interstellar with the space movie pulling in $1.651m across 419 screens. To date the movie has made $15.619m at the Australia box office.
The weekend also saw Aussie film Fat Pizza v Housos released, taking $280,604 across 121 screens putting it in eight spot. Nightcrawler was another new addition to the box office rankings, claiming third place in its opening weekend after taking in $572,424 across 96 screens.
The film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, tells the story of Lou Bloom, a journalist who muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism and begins to blur the line between observer and participant.
Let’s Be Cops continues to see its ticket takings decline, posting a weekend box office of $472,831 across 231 screens after taking in $761,000 across 261 screens last weekend.
My Old Lady slipped to seventh place, with the comedy drama showing on 116 screens and taking in $312,178, taking its total box office to $1.636m.
Gone Girl and Fury continue to play in the top 10, with Gone Girl making $313,252 across 150 screens over the weekend and Fury pulling in $204,311 across 125 screens.
