Ikea opens pitches for creative account, held by The Monkeys for nine years

Ikea has put its creative account up to pitch, which has been held by The Monkeys since 2010.

A previous creative review began in 2014 but was abandoned due to the “availability of key stakeholders to take part in the review process”.

An Ikea spokesperson told Mumbrella in a statement: “IKEA is currently undertaking a review of creative services. The review process is under way.”

The Monkeys were behind the ‘The best day is every day’ brand platform that debuted in 2016. The campaign series that followed featured items in IKEA’s range coming to life, including an apron dancing to Confidence Man’s track Boyfriend. Most recently, it created a campaign highlighting the tendencies people develop when surrounded by dysfunctional furniture.

Ikea has most recently been in the headlines for a stunt in which they had no involvement at all. A spoof billboard mocking Clive Palmer and created by Adrian Elton went viral following Saturday’s election result, most notably appearing as Lee Lin Chin’s cover photo on Facebook.

The Monkeys was recently named lead creative agency for Smeg, and has also won the accounts for Mountain Goat Beer and The Department of Communications and The Arts.

Mumbrella has reached out to The Monkeys for comment.
