Ikon wins Flight Centre Travel Group from Carat

Flight CentreFlight Centre Travel Group has appointed Ikon to manage its $40m marketing budget across six brands following a competitive pitch, ending a 10 year relationship with incumbent agency Carat.

Ikon Brisbane will manage the media buying for flagship brand Flight Centre along with niche leisure brands Escape Travel, Student Flight, Cruiseabout, Travel Associates and My Adventure Store.

Flight Centre head of customer experience Keith Stanley said: “Flight Centre Travel Group went to market to assess media opportunities to help support our ambitious marketing plans for the future across all six leisure brands.

“The quality of submissions, including the incumbent, were outstanding but Ikon Brisbane was ultimately successful due to their overall strategic thought process and direction.

“On behalf of Flight Centre Travel Group I wish to thank Carat for its long and successful service over the past 10 years.”

For Ikon the win follows the agency picking up UK online sports retailer Wiggle and retaining the $60m Commonwealth Bank account, although it lost Goodman Fielder’s baking division to Slingshot.

Ikon Brisbane managing director Lesley Edwards said: “Ikon are absolutely delighted to be working with such a great business and team of people.   We are very much looking forward to partnering with Flight Centre Travel Group’s brands” he said.

Ikon will commence work on the account from February.
