IMAA announces refreshed leadership team for 2021

The Independent Media Agencies of Australia (IMAA) has announced the members of its new leadership team for 2021, with agencies in NSW, Queensland and Victoria all represented.

Most of the leadership team will be replaced with new members, with the exception of Sandbox Media’s Ant Colreavy who will stay on.

The team, which will change each year, now includes The Media Store COO Jacquie Alley (NSW), Media Republic director Steve Fagan (Vic), Half Dome co-found and managing partner Tom Frazer (Vic),  BCM Group partner and managing director Phil McDonald (QLD) and MediaSmiths managing director Angela Smith (NSW).

IMAA general manager Sam Buchanan lauded the organisation’s first year of operation, during which it attracted more than 50 members around Australia.

“The IMAA has had a remarkable first year, attracting more than 50 members nationwide in under a year and several media sponsors, developing an alliance with the world’s largest independent agency network, The Network One and hosting an exclusive series of COVID-19 and insights and innovations webinars for our members, all during a pandemic.

“The new IMAA leadership team is a great reflection of our national presence and it’s pleasing to see a range of agencies step up to the team for 2021. It’s going to be another big year for us with several initiatives planned.”

Significantly, the leadership team now contains two women, after the inaugural board was criticised last year for being entirely male.

The changes see the departure of Nick Behr, Darren McKenzie, Dan O’Brien, Dominic Pearman from the team.

Buchanan thanked the outgoing leaders for their service to the IMAA, which launched in February of 2020.

“Their passion and energy have made the IMAA what it is today,” he said.

The IMAA revealed last month that almost a third (31%) of its members have recovered from the financial impacts of COVID-19, while 47% anticipated financial solidity by the second quarter of 2021.
