Independent cinemas to target camcorders
Members of the Independent Cinemas Association of Australia have been urged to detect and prevent audiences from using recording devices to pirate the films being screened in their cinemas.
“Prevention at the source – our cinemas – is an extremely important and valuable exercise to protect our film community,” said the executive director of the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT), Neil Gane.
At the ICAA annual conference in Sydney, AFACT launched a DVD training program that will help cinema managers and staff fight the use of camcorders and mobile phones for copyright infringement purposes. Additionally, copies of an anti-camcording trailer starring actor Roy Billing were provided to the owners of drive-in cinemas.
The Make a Difference 3 training package will be accompanied by a website, www.make-a-difference.sg
Hey guys,
there is a simple way to stop cameras of any type from recording or making a copy of a film during play. in fact it’s so cost effective and easy to set up that I have spoke with US movie studio’s recently about it. the only thing is that the studios believe this is a problem just for the DVD market????
I am happy to talk with any institution that would like to discuss this further.
cheers
steve
Why would anybody in Australia use a camcorder when people do it overseas and upload the movie before it’s even released here?
These people are out of touch. What a waste of money.
