ING champions sustainable gift giving this Christmas with ‘give me something good’ Dreamstarter campaign

A revamped version of Christmas carol ‘Joy to the World’ declares givers ‘give me something good’ this festive season, as financial institution ING takes a stand on the sustainability of Christmas.

The ad, created by VCCP, sees an army of rubbish collectors come out in force on Boxing Day to collect waste paper and unwanted gifts that are left outside homes after Christmas Day.

Those featured in the ad are the real life members of The Rubbish Choir, a group of real rubbish collectors from across the Greater Sydney area, who witness the waste each year first hand.

The campaign launches ING’s CSR program ‘Dreamstarter’, that enables people to create Christmas lists of sustainable products from start-up businesses that support social causes.

ING’s research has found that Australians receive an estimated 10 million unwanted gifts each Christmas, contributing to Australia’s staggering landfill.

Kat Topp and Jess Roberts of VCCP, said the creation of the campaign was a ‘rewarding experience’.

“Working with a group of real garbage collectors, brave enough to step completely out of their comfort zone and into a musical performance was an incredibly rewarding experience. The Good Gift List creator is a solution to the very real problem of waste at Christmas time and we’re confident this campaign will inspire people to consider the benefits of responsible and sustainable gift giving this year,” Topps and Roberts said.

The Rubbish Choir will be performing live, and will appear in a feature program on Channel 10. A 99% sustainable pop-up store will appear for three weeks at Westfield Bondi Junction.

The campaign will be executed across online film, digital OOH, social, digital, PR, radio and TV partnership.
