Inside The Human Body episode of man dying wins time slot for Nine

Nine’s decision to air a controversial BBC documentary showing the death of a 84-year-old man appeared to pay off last night with the show winning its time slot.

Albeit being the 7th most-watched show last night with just over 1 million, the Inside The Human Body episode won the 8:30 slot, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

The network defended the move after it caused a stir in the UK in an article published in the Herald Sun.

A Nine spokesman said: “We accept that, for many people, to watch this may be a challenging experience.  However, the decision to have the cameras present was made by Gerald himself, as he hoped the footage would show viewers that death is not necessarily painful, frightening or humiliating.”
