Insulation brand Knauf insulates Australia’s most isolated town

An insulation brand has launched a new campaign built around the idea of insulating what it claims is the most isolated town in Australia.

The campaign by Knauf Insulation saw the company insulate the entire town of Birdsville, population 80, which in the summer often reaches temperatures as high as 40 degrees.

The project, saw the company truck 8,000 square metres of Earthwool insulation (enough to cover a football field) across the outback 1500 kilomoetres by road-train from Brisbane to Birdsville. The rollout began in April this year and will conclude this weekend at the annual Birdsville Races.

The campaign was created by public relations agency Eleven PR. Rob Lowe, director of Eleven PR Australia, said:“Working with the team at Knauf Insulation, Birdsville council and local residents over the last few months, has been a once in a lifetime experience.  PR projects that make a positive and tangible impact on the lives of real people are not just effective, they’re a pleasure to work on.”

During summer this year, Birdsville made international news headlines as temperatures reached over 40 degrees for 29 days straight and thermometers peaked at 49 degrees on the hottest day.  Thongs have been known to melt into the tarmac outside the Birdsville Hotel.  During winter however, nighttime temperatures can drop to zero.

As part of the campaign a six-minute mini-documentary and 2 minute short about the project has been released on YouTube.
