Insurgent beats Home to top box office while Chappie slides badly

The second film of the Divergent series, Insurgent, has swept the box office over the weekend taking $4.124m on its debut, holding off animated comedy Home.

Dreamworks’ latest blockbuster about an alien invasion starring Rhianna and Jim Parsons. managed $2.803m on its opening weekend on 333 screens, compared to Insurgent’s 393 screen showing.

Third spot went to last week’s number one Will Smith con movie Focus, which stars Australian Margot Robbie, and took $1.104m on the weekend on 276, taking its total box office to $7.063m.
