Iranian Film Festival Australia tributes Mohammad Rasoulof

The inaugural Iranian Film Festival Australia announced its tour dates, Brisbane 4-7 August, Canberra 11-21 August, Adelaide 13-21 August.

The festival will pay tribute to the recent jailings of Iranian directors Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof for “assembly, collusion, and propagandising against the regime”. Rasoulof’s two major films Iron Island and White Meadows, “both strong political fables where Magic-realism is subverted to the point of implosion” will screen.

Highlights include:
A Separation, directed by Asghar Farhadi, which won the major prize at the Sydney Film Festival earlier this month. The film will only at Brisbane’s Iranian Film Festival, with an introduction by Farhadi.

Circumstance, which won the Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival, and was shot in Lebanon. Due to its controversial, love triangle storyline, it will be available to Iran only via the underground. Also on the bill, will be films Gold & Copper, There Are Things You Don’t Know, teen indie Rainy Seasons and more.
