‘It’s an incredible moment to reflect on how much you’ve achieved’: Mumbrella Awards final entry deadline tomorrow

The final entry deadline for the 2024 Mumbrella Awards is this Friday.

This year’s awards features 34 categories, each one developed to spotlight the media, marketing and communications excellence exemplified by organisations and individual professionals.

Several staple categories are locked in this year.

Ad Campaign of the Year returns to celebrate the best of the best in product and brand campaigns; Media Campaign of the Year – which selects the top media planning and strategy in the industry – is back; Creative Agency of the Year will give the industry’s creative agencies the chance to celebrate their work; Media Brand of the Year will once again offer the country’s highest-performing media brand with a trophy, and more.

And just like the industry it bolsters, the 2024 Mumbrella Awards has grown with two new categories.

The first of these is Best Campaign with a Small Budget – an accolade designed to recognise a product or brand campaign developed and executed with a budget smaller than $50,000 (excluding GST).

The second new category is Best Influencer Strategy – an award that cements which in-house team or agency best used an influencer for promoting solutions. The category define an influencer as someone who fits the label of “a celebrity/media personality, a blogger or a social media personality”.

The full category list and the entry criteria for each award can be found here.

The aforementioned 2024 jury is made up of the crème de la crème of Australia’s marketing and media industry.

Several huge names are on the list, including Tourism Tasmania’s chief marketing officer (CMO) Lindene Cleary, World Vision Australia’s CMO Louise Cummins, PepsiCo ANZ’s CMO Vandita Pandey, Endeavour Group’s general manager creative – marketing Katie Dally, and Dom Hickey, the chief strategy officer at 2023 Mumbrella Awards-winner Howatson+Company. The full list can be found here.

2024 juror Adam Johnson, chief growth officer at Nova Entertainment, said to wow the judges this year, let them know what you did and what it achieved within the first sentence.

“For initial written submissions, treat it like a news article where the ‘headline’ needs to tell as much of the story as possible. Wow me with the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ afterwards,” he said.

“For finalist presentations, when it comes to people, fewer is more. I get you want everyone who worked on the campaign to have their moment in the sun, but having nine people presenting for 3 mins each is cumbersome at best and awkward at worst! Bring the two or three (max) most interesting and engaging contributors you can.”

Virginia Hyland, CEO of Havas Media Network, added: “Marketing budgets are more challenged then ever so there is greater importance placed on compelling activations.

“I’m looking forward to judging entries that have delivered powerful engagement with audiences through smart innovative ideas which elevate creativity to solve the problem.”

Notable winners from last year’s Mumbrella Awards include CHEP Network, Match & Wood, Special Group, The Trade Desk, Tourism NT, Virgin Australia Group, Urban List and This is Flow.

“Winning Commercial Team Of The Year and Media Brand Of The Year in 2023 was a huge moment,” said Urban List’s head of brand and culture, Sophia Wilcox.

“Being recognised by industry peers for the work and wins we’d achieved was a real moral booster for our whole crew and our clients. If you’re on the fence, I’d highly recommend entering into the awards – it’s a brilliant way to slow down for a moment and reflect on everything you’ve created.”

This is Flow’s CEO and founder, Jimmy Hyett, won Industry Leader of the Year, while Bullfrog’s CEO and founder, Dalton Henshaw, took home Under-30 Achiever of the Year.

Henshaw told Mumbrella: “If you are considering entering the Mumbrella Awards, you should, but do so not because you expect to win, but because it’s an incredible moment to reflect on how much either you as an individual or team has achieved in 12-months, and it’s not often in this fast paced industry that we are in we get to slow down and smell the roses. So, enjoy the process.”

The entry deadline closes midnight on Friday, April 12.
