Holly Wainwright the editor of parenting site iVillage Australia has been appointed as the new editor of sister title Mamamia.

The appointment follows on from former editor Jamila Rizvi being named as editor-in-chief of the Mamamia Network’s sites Mamamia, iVillage Australia and The Glow last December. Rizvi had been covering the editor duties in the months since as the team searched for her replacement.

“Holly has proven herself to be a formidable editor and online strategist, making the far-from-easy transition from print to digital in January this year. After a lengthy search for the right person to fill this role externally, we decided that Holly was the only woman for the job,” said Rizvi.

“The fact we decided to fill the Editor position from without our existing team, is reflective of the phenomenal success and ground-breaking work of the Mamamia Network. We are building a brand and way of operating that is unrivalled, and doing so with significant success.”

Previous to working with iVillage, Wainwright was the deputy editor for OK! Magazine. She started with iVillage at the start of the year.

“Many of our readers will already be familiar with Holly because her writing appears regularly on Mamamia. Holly’s clever, authentic and irreverent style are the perfect match for the Mamamia brand,” said Rizvi.

According to Rizvi, Mamamia hit a readership milestone in the last week, with more than 1.5 million unique browsers logging onto their site, which is an average of more than 300,000 per day.

“This success is due in no small part to Mamamia’s outstanding team of writers, who so willingly share their brains and hearts with the readers every single day. It’s been a privilege to manage such a committed and brilliant group of women,” she said.

Avi Vince will be acting as iVillage editor as the team searches for Wainwright’s replacement. Vince has been with iVillage since April.
