James Greet departs Cummins & Partners
Cummins&Partners chief media officer James Greet has departed the agency.
Greet joined Cummins&Partners in 2015 after taking time away from adland to be a full time triathlete.
He was previously the CEO of Ikon Communications for 18 months, joining from his role as ANZ CEO at Mindshare.
Six months ago Cummins&Partners global chief financial officer, Chris Atkin also quietly departed the agency.
Atkin, who joined Cummins&Partners in February last year, left in April and is now the global chief operations and financial officer at software company Rezdy.
Finance director Jodie Moore has also exited the creative agency.
Moore joined Cummins&Partners in March last year from her previous stint at Dentsu Aegis Network APAC.
Moore and Greet’s departures are the latest departures from the agency as global chief strategy director Adam Ferrier and joint ECDs Jim Ingram and Ben Couzen’s left the agency in March to launch Thinkerbell.
In June Cummins & Partners won the creative account for T2 and HBF.
Cummins&Partners confirmed the departures but had not provided a comment.
Cummins&Partners clients include AFL, Jeep, CSR, HBF, McCain, KraftHeinz, Asahi and Specsavers.
Both good operators with good track records. It won’t be long before we see them pop up in a few future setting roles.
Best of luck guys and really hoping to see Cummins fighting fit in the new year.

I just scrolled through anyone I could find on LinkedIn when you search for Cummins & Partners. It’s possible I missed some people / something, but all I could see was a couple of people with “connections” in their title, and no “media” people…? Do they still offer media?

Mumbrella this is so boring. Why don’t you actually write interesting news and not just “someone left a company and someone joined a company”.. Do you folks cry yourself to sleep at night because you are incredibly tedious?

Hi Yawn,
Thanks for your question.
So James Greet is one of the most respected and experienced operators in the media space, having run some of the biggest media agencies around. He deserves much of the credit for putting OMD on the path to success it still enjoys today. Early in his tenure running Mindshare, he won Unilever. His move to Cummins was an intriguing move for what it said about their ambitions to be old school full service.
Not many others have had as much impact over the years.
So if you’re interested in the ins and outs of the world of media agencies and marketing, his departure from Cummins & Partners is interesting.
However, if you’re not interested in the world of media agencies, then yes, you might find it a tad tedious. In which case this may not be the site for you. Despite the name, we’re not a parenting website.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Hi Cummin s & Media,
I think you missed Kirsty Muddle, who still lists herself on LinkedIn as being at Cummins, is a partner and is a media person.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Thinkerbell office in Sydney?

I really enjoyed working for James when he took over as CEO at Mindshare – he did a great job of reinvigorating the agency and making it a much better place to work after a lot of years of it treading water before he turned up. Hope he’s able to have a similar impact on another Sydney agency in the near future!

And turns up at Thinkerbell in 3, 2, 1…

The blend of media and creative if difficult to get right. Economies of scale are harder to reach today than ever before given the extent of specialisms clients require to reach the same customer today as they did 5 years ago.
It feels like a good strategy for independents is to apply greater focus on core areas of expertise, probably focusing on the smarts first.
Cummins is a great global success story. It’s evolving because it can and as an observer I’d say it will come out stronger and better than ever, and wiser than most.

James is a brilliant operator. Best of luck with your next move mate.

I think he would best be described as a polarizing figure…

Doesn’t anyone in adland have a non-compete clause anymore?
Or does no-one bother enforce it?
All these people turning up consultancy side should expect when they do go to leave, will be held to non-compete clauses.
Of note, IBM Australia recently enforced a non-compete on one of its senior directors heading to Amazon Australia (this is a matter of public record as it went to court).

Hi Jason that’s hilarious.

Can Creative Agencies become Media Agencies? I think this shows that a great operator like James found it difficult to navigate that mine field! Should they partner with an Independent or just buy one like M&C Saatchi did.

They were good. Fitzi related to the working class well. Carmen kept him in line. 96 fm repeats music like you can write down the song names & know when the tape comes back to a song like clockwork. A 10 day cycle of repeats. Try it. Take note & see.
