Jane Palfreyman steps into SBS acting managing director role
Jane Palfreyman, the SBS chief marketing and commercial officer, has been appointed acting managing director by the station’s board as it searches for a new boss.
This comes after James Taylor stepped down from the role last week after 13 years at the broadcaster, in order to head up Ooh Media.
SBS Board acting chair, Christine Zeitz, said the interim appointment “provides continuity of leadership and ensures an orderly transition until the next managing director is appointed.”
Palfreyman’s position may not be as temporary as this suggests. SBS has a history of promoting from within for executive roles, and Taylor was appointed as managing director in 2018 having served as SBS’ chief financial officer for five years.
Jane Palfreyman currently leads SBS’s commercial strategy, brand and audience engagement, client partnerships and revenue growth. She has been at SBS for 13 years — the length of Taylor’s tenure — and has held senior positions across sales and marketing.
Her appointment as acting managing director will take effect from next Thursday, August 28.
