Jason Smith joins Ikon as agency director

WPP-owned Ikon Communications has named Jason Smith as its agency director for the Sydney office.

Smith has been a contractor at Joy Agency for the past four months after departing Bohemia as a group business director in November last year.

Smith will be reporting into Ikon’s managing partner James Sawyer.

Smith is replacing Sawyer after the agency saw a national leadership re-structure in June which saw Sydney’s managing partner Pat Crowley undertake a role focused solely on the agency’s foundation client, Commonwealth Bank, and James Sawyer become Sydney’s managing partner.

Sawyer said in a statement: “With skills honed across three continents, he has a wealth of knowledge to offer the Ikon business, combined with a collaborative leadership style and a focus on strengthening existing client relationships.

“Jason’s experience in leading large integrated full-service clients combined with his background in strategy is perfectly suited to our needs here at Ikon, guiding the client leaders of the future,” the managing partner said.

Smith said his relationships with his clients and team has always been a priority for him.

“Developing strong relationships with clients, my team, creative and media partners alike to achieve measurable business results has always been a priority and one that fits well with Ikon’s proven approach,” Smith said.

In other appointments Ikon Communications Brisbane has hired Richard Woof as a client service director.

Woof joins the agency from his previous stint at OgilvyOne Business where he was an account director for four years.

Chris Ernst, the managing partner of Ikon Communications, said: “His depth of experience in assisting brands on their digital evolution paired with a genuine passion for consumer behavior and its impact on purchase decisions will be invaluable.”
