Jay Walkerden ‘devastated’ over departure from Nova Brisbane

The former general manager of the Nova’s Brisbane operation and head of the network’s podcasting, Jay Walkerden, has said he was devastated to learn of his ousting from the company via email.

In a statement issued to Mumbrella following the breaking news of his departure this morning, Walkerden said he has “always acted with integrity and empathy” with teams across the board and clients.

His full statement to Mumbrella reads:

“It was personally and professionally devastating to receive an email informing me that my time was up at Nova.

“I am proud of the work, results and leadership demonstrated over nine fantastic years with Nova in Brisbane and have always acted with integrity and empathy with our on and off air teams and clients.”

Walkerden joined Nova in 2011

The departure comes after an internal investigation about an alleged incident during a work trip to the United States.

Walkerden was travelling with members of the Brisbane breakfast show ‘Ash, Kip and Luttsy with Susie O’Neill’ earlier this year, and it’s understood the alleged altercation involved one of the on-air team members.

Walkerden joined Nova in 2011 as program director for 106.9. He was then elevated to the dual role of general manager of Brisbane in 2015. He subsequenty also took on responsibility for its podcast operations.
