JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them dominates weekend box office
The first film based around the world of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, dominated the weekend box office achieving $9.756m in its first weekend at the box office.
Produced and written by JK Rowling, the concept was based on a textbook found in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
The latest British fantasy film from Warner Bros was released on November 17 and has raked in a total of $9.814m since its premiere.
The new film won the top spot over Disney’s Doctor Strange which has held first spot in the weekend box office over the last few weeks.
Doctor Strange managed $1.2m at the weekend, earning a total of $18.077m since its release.
Arrival slipped to third place over the weekend, the sci-film raking in $1.163m. The film has made a total of $4.112m since its release two weeks ago.
War Film Hacksaw Ridge brought its total earnings to $4.966m over the weekend after it made $832,628 at box office.
In fifth place, US film The Accountant achieved $683,982 at weekend box office, bringing its total earnings to $4.966m.
