Joe Hildebrand joins 2GB after leaving Studio 10

Joe Hildebrand has picked up shifts with Nine Radio’s 2GB following his exit from Ten.

Hildebrand will join John Stanley in the Nights slot every Thursday, with a view to expand the agreement down the track.

For now, Hildebrand will only on the show for an hour, from 8pm to 9pm, but Hildebrand confirmed to the Daily Telegraph that he was hoping the role would expand.

Hildebrand said on Twitter he was delighted to be returning to radio and told Confidential he was confident there would be a lot of crossover between his Studio 10 audience and the 2GB audience.

“I can’t think of any better place to be than 2GB. I’ve got a strong feeling that a lot of my old audience from Studio 10 are also the kind of people who listen to 2GB. These are battlers from the suburbs, people who live in the real world, who like straight talk and big laughs and I can’t wait to reconnect with them,” he said.

Hildebrand was originally said to be considering his options after Ten announced it would be making cuts to its Studio 10 team, including co-host Kerri-Anne Kennerley. However, he later said he would be leaving the network.

“Channel Ten and my lovely bosses asked me if I’d stay on in a new role. We talked about it really openly and warmly, about what that might look like. And they were really keen and they were really lovely about it, so don’t lash out at them. But I just thought, probably just better to draw a line under this amazing, little story … and give the new show, whatever it may look like, the chance to breathe and have a fresh start without me hanging around,” he told the Studio 10 audience on his final day.
