John Sintras departs SBS
One of Australia’s most prominent media executives has joined the list of those looking for new opportunities as 2018 draws to a close.
SBS’ John Sintras – who only joined as chief audience and content officer in April – resigned from the broadcaster and finished up on Friday.
SBS thanked Sintras for his contribution.
“John Sintras recently made the decision to resign and depart SBS to pursue new opportunities. As a highly respected figure in the media industry, we have valued the energy and insight he has brought to the team, as well as his passion for SBS and its purpose. We thank him for the valuable contributions he has made during this time, and wish him all the best,” a spokesperson said.
Sintras replaced Helen Kellie who passed away in December last year. His role included end-to-end oversight of SBS’ audience and content strategy, including its brands, marketing approach, audience engagement and analytics.
Sintras was appointed during SBS CEO Michael Ebeid’s tenure. The broadcaster announced in July that Ebeid would step down in October after 7.5 years at the helm.
Ebeid has since been replaced by chief financial officer James Taylor.
Prior to joining SBS, Sintras was president of global business development and produce innovation at IPG Mediabrands. He “transitioned” out of the media buying giant following the departure of blobal CEO Henry Tajer.
Tajer has since resurfaced at Amazon as the managing director of its media arm – Amazon Media Group.
Couldn’t take agency experience and adapt to publisher side?

Very sorry to hear of John’s departure, especially after such a brief tenure. Had some recent contact with John and he was very courteous and cordial. Another example of the precariousness of media life today.

John’s an excellent operator, and will be a fabulous addition wherever he pops up next.

That’s a shame. Felt like a good fit…
