Journalist Lois Chislett retires from ACE Radio

Lois Chislett will retire from ACE Radio at the end of the year after many years with the media company.

The announcement:

CELEBRATED ACE RADIO JOURNALIST RETIRES

Long-serving ACE Radio journalist, Lois Chislett, is set to retire at the end of the year.

Lois’ radio career began at 3YB Warrnambool in 1973, having completed her secondary education at St Anne’s College.

She started as a junior copywriter, writing scripts for radio commercials and was promoted to Department Head after 3 years in the job.

The 1980s saw Lois add on-air work to her repertoire, hosting the 3YB Morning Show. At the time, she was one of the only female announcers in regional Victoria to hold a permanent morning shift.

After a break of eight years to raise daughters Sarah and Amy, Lois was approached by management in the mid-1990s to return to the station, where she moved into her current journalist role.

“It really was like taking on a completely new job,” she says. “I had to learn the skills of interviewing, writing for news, editing and voicing. It was daunting, but it proved to be the start of a great career.”

Lois presents news bulletins for both 3YB FM and Coast FM in Warrnambool and also provides rural focused interviews for ACE Radio’s ‘Country Today’ program. She has been a regular contributor to 3AW’s news service in Melbourne and has broken news nationally on the John Laws Morning Show.

Over the years, Lois has become one of the most awarded regional radio journalists in Australia, winning six Australian Commercial Radio Awards for Best News Presenter and the prestigious Bryan White Award for Excellence in Journalism. In 2018, she made the Top 10 list of Radio’s Greatest AM Newsreaders, compiled by Radio Today.

ACE Radio Warrnambool’s General Manager, Peter Headen, paid tribute to Lois’ career.

“Lois Chislett has been an exceptional employee, passionate, enthusiastic talented and committed to bringing our audience the latest news stories. I wish Lois all the best in her retirement and thank her for her commitment to the station and her assistance over many years.”

As she calls time on her long and distinguished radio career, Lois says she’s looking forward to the next chapter of life.

“3YBFM/Coast FM is such an integral part of the community and I’ve loved being a part of the team, but it’ll be good to have some ‘me’ time and also spend more time with my husband David, my family and grandchildren. We’ll travel and just enjoy life. It’ll be nice to turn off the brain and not think of ‘what’s making news’.
