KFC offers up six ‘Ultimate KFC Weddings’ in new competition

KFC is pitching itself to consumers as the food brand of choice for fun weddings, and offering up six KFC-themed wedding packages.

The wedding package will include catering of Kentucky Fried Chicken, a KFC-themed marriage celebrant, a branded photo booth, custom KFC buckets and musical entertainment.

Entrants must describe in 200 words or less why they want to win a KFC wedding. According to the company, “winners will be judged on their originality, creative merit and independent expression shared in the entry.”

The campaign kicked off with print ads appearing in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, showing a bride and groom posing with their KFC bucket.

Managing director at KFC Australia, Nikki Lawson, explained the idea came from the multitude of social media messages the brand receives about how KFC was incorporated into people’s proposals and weddings.

“KFC is all about living your best life and we were flattered that so many of our fans are showing that Aussie larrikin spirit by asking us to be a part of their big day,” Lawson said.

“Over the years we’ve seen some amazing Facebook comments and have heard of some incredible proposals from fans taking place in our restaurants in Australia and around the world. Seeing these we thought ‘bucket, let’s create a KFC Wedding service. We think it’s important that this isn’t just a one-off affair and that as many of our fans have the chance to get a KFC Wedding – so we’re making this available for eight months as a genuine service for anyone living in Australia.”

The weddings will occur between October 2019 and May 2020.

The campaign was created by WPP’s Ogilvy, with PR done by Opr, and media by Mediacom.
