Naomi Watts, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Jacki Weaver all nominated at Screen Actors’ Guild Awards

Five of Australia’s leading actors have received nominations at the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards in the US.

Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Russell Crowe and Jacki Weaver have all received nominations for their work in film over the last year.

Nicole Kidman leads the Australians with two nods, one for her supporting role in film The Paperboy. Joining her in the nominations are Sally Field for Lincoln, Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables, Maggie Smith for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Helen Hunt in Australian Ben Lewin’s film The Sessions.

Kidman has also been nominated for best female actor in a television movie or miniseries for her portrayal of Martha Gellhorn in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn. She is up against Julianne Moore in Game Change, Charlotte Rampling in Restless, Sigourney Weaver in Political Animals and Alfre Woodard in Steel Magnolias.

Hugh Jackman, currently in Sydney shooting Wolverine, has been nominated for his performance of Jean Valjean in the adaptation of Les Miserables in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.

Jackman is up against Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook, Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, Denzel Washington for Flight, and John Hawkes for Australian Ben Lewin’s The Sessions.

Jackman and fellow cast members, including Russell Crowe, have also been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, alongside Argo, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook.

Naomi Watts has also picked up a nomination for her leading role in theatrical film The Impossible. Watts is up again Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, Marion Cotillard in Rust & Bone, Jennifer Lawrence in Solver Linings Playbook and Helen Mirren in Hitchcock.

Jacki Weaver was also part of the cast of Silver Linings Playbook, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
