Kim Kardashian and Sharon Strzelecki star in Uber Eats’ latest local campaign
Magda Szubanski has reprised her iconic role as Sharon Strzelecki, an overly-enthusiastic netballer with a thick Australian accent, in Uber Eats’ latest iteration of its ‘Tonight I’ll be eating’ campaign.
Strzelecki is on the couch in her netball uniform revealing her dinner selection to her friend, Kim. Moments later, however, it is revealed that the ‘Kim’ she is speaking to is not Gina Riley’s Kim Day from the Kath and Kim series – but US reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian West.

Strzelecki decides she will eat pesto gnocchi and garlic bread to keep her “carbed up”, while Kardashian-West will be eating a “chicken schnitty with chips and chicken salt”.
The duo then disagree over the pronunciation of ‘nice’ (or ‘noice’) and various other rhyming words.
The Tonight I’ll Be Eating campaign kicked off locally two years ago, and featured identities such as Sophie Monk, Beau Ryan, Ryan Maloney, Naomi Watts and Boy George.
Another iteration of the campaign featured Rebel Wilson, Ruby Rose, Lee Lin Chin and Ray Martin.
Throughout the Australian Open’s first outing on Nine, various tennis stars, umpires, cameramen and ground-staff also featured in a tennis version of the campaign.

Most recently, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and Anh Do formed a band, ‘Barnesy, Farnsy and Anhsy’, for the campaign.
Special Group has been behind the campaign thus far.

Love it! Well done. Best yet!
This is much better than the cringe that is ‘Barnesy, Farnsy and Anhsy’.
Points to Kim K who actually does a pretty good Australian accent.

It’s a pity they couldn’t have been in the same room together.

Love Sharon. Big question mark over ‘How much?’ for Kim. I hope that our iconic Magda got an equitable fee. Fingers crossed that none of Uber’s reported legal/financial issues ultimately cause any casualties in the local ad industry.

Do you actually see them in the same shot together except on the camera or in the final “cut?”

I love Magda, but hate “the company” and that silly plastic vacuous “K” woman. That video would be excellent if they just kept Magda and ditched the rest of the [edited under Mumbrella’s comment policy] garbage. BTW “that company” just lost its license in London; being deemed “not fit and proper to hold the license” : Yay! This idiot “gig economy” is just [edited under Mumbrella’s comment policy] : see the movie “Sorry we missed you”.

Premise – Celebrity says an Australian meal, then pretends not to understand the accent. Very repeatable, but not witty, not funny.

An ad that has instantly become part of Aussie pop culture. Bravo! Iconic.
And massive LOL to any ad person who pans it. We’d all kill to say we worked on this.

Actually… incorrect

The real genius is in pulling up Sharon after 10 years off air – she was a cult icon for now 39 year olds, back then. And they are the most prolific Ubereats users. Totally nails it. The Kim K bit just reinforces Sharon’s iconic status. Kim is just the side show for Sharon fans. Only thing better would have been a trademark ‘Kimmeeeeeoi’.
