Knowing your client, and when they’re speaking…
Dr Mumbo couldn’t help but wonder about the strength or otherwise of the relationship between creative agency AJF Partnership and client iSelect.
While panelist Geraldine Davys, the relatively newly arrived marketing director of iSelect, was on stage at Mumbrella Meet the Marketers in Melbourne on Wednesday talking about her brand work, but nobody from the agency was to be seen in the audience.
Which was a pity, because she was dropping some hefty hints she didn’t like the work.
Which undoubtedly piqued the interest of rival creative agencies in the room who seemed keen to say hello to her during the networking drinks.
It was a marked contrast to the presence on stage of NAB marketer Kevin Ramsdale. His agency Clems were there in numbers.
Which seems like basic client management to Dr Mumbo.
Agencies working with News Corp Australia, Westfield, the NRL and the Sydney Opera House: You do know your client’s on stage in Sydney next week, don’t you?
Bravo Mumbo, using Fear of Loss to drive ticket sales. Huzzah!

Dear Mumbo…I think that if you were a client that presented themselves as a professional marketer and respected their agency partners and their work …..you would probably not be discussing things for the first time in a public forum that hadn’t been discussed in private first…..

If the client is going to go to a public forum and criticise an agency I don’t think having them in the room is going to make any difference.

Big deal, Clems is always everywhere in big numbers. They can’t go to the toilet without an entire branch of the account manager / director / MD hierarchy being there. The only way to figure out how many of them actually work on St Kilda Rd is to put on a forum and count how many turn up.
