Kong proves to be massive money monkey movie at weekend box office
Warner Brothers’ Kong: Skull Island has retained its box office lead for a second week with weekend takings of $3.133m.
Kong: Skull Island, a re-boot of the King Kong series, features Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L Jackson and their encounter with the beast called Kong. Since its release it has reached a total Australian box office of just under $10m, according to data from the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
Fox’s Logan – the tale of Wolverine in 2029 – followed closely behind with takings of $2.886m. Logan’s total box office sits at $19.471m.
Hidden Figures, also released by Fox, was third, with a weekend box office of $1.062m.
Meanwhile the first weekend for Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience: Peppa’s Australian Holiday – released by Eone – saw takings of $814,742 .
Transmission’s Lion, which is now the sixth highest-grossing Australian film ever remained in the top five over the weekend. Its takings were $553,091, taking it to a total since its January premier of $28.605m.
