Last chance for Young Lions with 48 hour YouTube competition

Young creatives who didn’t make it through to be Australia’s Young Lions representatives at Cannes this year have one final, frenetic chance to get to the festival.

The organisation has announced a 48 hour viral film contest in what it describes as the first of its kind on YouTube.

A brief for an international charity will be uploaded onto the Cannes Lions YouTube site at 10am EST on May 15. Creatives under the age of 28 will then have 48 hours to create and upload a 60 second ad. They will then have a further two weeks to drive as many public views as possible.

Two winners – who will be paired as the 38th team in the Young Lions Film competition – will then be selected based on creativity, views and ratings and comments. They will have all of their expenses paid to the festival, which takes place at the end of June.

(Note: it is worth checking in on the site nearer the time for the exact time of upload. Although the press release says the brief will be uploaded at midnight GMT, the Cannes press office has told Mumbrella it’s meant to be midnight London time, which is currently under BST, in which case the upload would be at 9am EST.)
