Leesa McMahon moving up at Them agency

Adelaide advertising and digital agency Them has promoted general manager Leesa McMahon to managing director.

“Our team and culture couldn’t be better than it is now,” said McMahon. “I see it as a tremendous privilege to lead both established and up-and-coming talent – especially those fresh out of uni – into the next era of advertising.”

Them’s team has grown by around 30% in the past 12 months, landing new business wins – most notably the expanding Samuel Smith & Son wine account; BAE Systems; Titomic; and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s EzyPlates.

All new accounts came via referral or competitive pitch wins, alongside a stable of loyal, longstanding clients.

New suppliers, freelancers and production houses have also been brought on to support both clients and local business.

“It’s been a phenomenal year at Them, even in the midst of the pandemic,” says outgoing MD Mark Wightman, who will act as agency chairman.

“As well as the team, much of that is a credit to Leesa who, first in a finance position and then as general manager, has helped steer Them to become a solid agency of choice with a strong digital presence.”

McMahon started with Them when she was just 19. She went on to marry and have children, dabble in TV, and work with leading production houses including Pepper Studios, KOJO Productions, John Francis Productions, and agencies Hybrid and MOF before and after they merged. She even ran her own homewares shop and had a short stint in government advertising in regional Victoria and New South Wales, before returning to her roots at the Adelaide agency.

The agency recently implemented flexible work hours to promote health and wellbeing.
