Lego Masters launches to 838,000 metro viewers ahead of MasterChef’s 670,000

Nine’s Lego Masters has won the first-night battle against Ten’s tentpole competitor MasterChef Australia, in a night that saw both launches down on previous years.

Hamish Blake-hosted Lego Masters brought in 838,000 metro viewers (and 1.117 million nationally) for Nine on Monday night, with MasterChef’s launch taking 670,000 metro viewers (853,000 nationally). Lego Masters also won the three key advertising demos, with Masterchef second in each.

Despite the nightly win, the first episode of Lego Masters’ third season was down the launch for both season two (1.239 million metro viewers) and season one (1.377 million metro viewers).

MasterChef’s launch was also down on previous seasons. In 2020, MasterChef: Back To Win launched to 1.268 million metro viewers, with 715,000 watching in 2019 and 890,000 in 2018.

A spokesperson for Network Ten said: “We are very happy to see the return of MasterChef Australia. This really is a wonderful season and tonight we see the final 5 aprons being given out as we complete our top 24.

“It is great to have Andy, Melissa and Jock back on our screens, not to mention the best cooks ever.”

But Ten will be hoping for better returns in the coming weeks, as Aussies get to know the contestants, with last night’s episode seeing cooks competing for an apron to be a part of the competition.
