Leo Burnett Melbourne’s ‘slow mornings’ spot for 7Eleven wins gold at 2011 Siren Awards
Leo Burnett Melbourne has won top honours at the 2011 Siren Awards with a spot about how slow mornings can be without a cup of 7Eleven coffee.
Written by Andrew Woodhead and Eamonn Dixon, ‘Slowing mornings’ won the 2011 Gold Siren award for best radio ad of the year, and also picked up a Silver Siren for winning in the campaign category.
For winning, Woodhead and Dixon’s spot will be entered into the Cannes Radio Lions and will have their airfares, accommodation and tickets to the event covered.
Brad Grisaffe, senior engineer, Audiobrien, and a Siren Awards judge, called the winning ad: “”Attention grabbing and funny…everyone can relate to having a slow morning”.
Joe Talcott, chief creative, NewsLab, noted: “This year’s Siren Awards were quite difficult to judge, with a strong showing of high quality work being submitted. The Gold winner wonderfully demonstrated something that millions of people experience every morning. It compelled you to listen to the ads”.
Entries to the Commercial Radio Australia-run Sirens, now in their seventh year, were up 34% on last year, to around 800.

Hmm. I was hoping for some next-level radio stuff. I really dislike the American accented drag queen tags.
