Less than 100,000 viewers now sit between Seven’s MKR and Nine’s The Voice

As Seven’s long-running reality program My Kitchen Rules heads towards its finale, the gap between it and rival The Voice on Nine has significantly shrunk.

Last night, My Kitchen Rules averaged 1.161m metro viewers at 7:30pm, while Nine’s The Voice finished with a metro audience of 1.063m.

As it stands, there are 98,000 viewers sitting between the two reality programs overall. When The Voice launched, there was 276,000 viewers between the two shows.

My Kitchen Rules was most popular in Sydney, with 355,000 viewers, slightly ahead of The Voice’s 342,000.

OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings show the proceeding shows – Nine’s 60 Minutes and Seven’s Sunday Night – had audiences of 793,000 and 747,000 respectively at 8:30pm.

Meanwhile, the first part of Ten’s Bachelor in Paradise grand final pulled in a metro audience of 627,000. The final episode will air this evening. Ten’s The Project 6:30pm, which ran before Bachelor in Paradise, managed 268,000.

All three reality shows – MKR, The Voice and Bachelor in Paradise – appeared across the key advertising demographics, 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s. My Kitchen Rules led the two older demographics, while Bachelor in Paradise was ahead in the 16-39s.

The 6pm news battle saw Seven win yet another evening, with 1.234m metro viewers. The bulletin was the most-watched Sunday night program. It was comfortably ahead of Nine News Sunday’s 1.033m.

Seven’s biggest lead over Nine came from Perth bulletin, which pulled 248,000 viewers over Nine’s 80,000.

On the ABC, the most-watched program was its bulletin, with an audience of 693,000. But outside of news, ABC’s most-watched show was Grand Designs on 591,000.

Aside from Nine’s NRL offering and Seven’s AFL matches, which grabbed audiences of 303,000 and 590,000, there was another sport running in the afternoon.

The third match of Nine’s Suncorp Super Netball, which launched on Saturday, pulled in 96,000 viewers on the main channel.

Seven snatched another Sunday evening win with a 24.3%, beating Nine’s 22.8%. ABC stole a win off Ten shares of 10.6% and 9.5% respectively. SBS’ share was 5.4%.
