LG challenges pedestrian.tv to run its website on LG’s new smart phone for a week
Electronics company LG is challenging pop culture news website pedestrian.tv to run its entire business off a mobile handset for a week to promote the company’s new smart phone.
From Monday, Pedestrian staff will relocate to a publicly visible space within Westfield Sydney for an entire week where they will film interviews, shoot fashion editorial and post news stories.
“We knew that our challenge was how to demonstrate the capabilities of this phone to our target and to get the right people talking about it. By partnering with Pedestrian.tv we are able to take the phone directly to our target and showcase exactly what it can do through amazing content and activations with the phone at the heart – we’re really excited to see the guys running their entire business using just the LG Optimus Black,”Adam Ross, director, strategy, co-creation, Mindshare.
Using the LG Optimus Black, Pedestrian will be staging a publicly-voted model casting, a panel discussion on how to make it in the creative industries, Speed Stalking using Facebook profiles and live chat, a mobile gaming event and performances from bands Papa vs Pretty and DZ Deathrays.
it’s a cool idea and very clever, great work MS and Pedestrian … but does that mean DFP and payroll software works on the LG too 😉

Great PR stunt but personally I wouldn’t want to run a business off a smartphone.
Especially writing articles. Would be a pain.
I could run the majority of a business off my phone but not all…

This is a really nice move and we will see the success of this strategy.

ballsy, but like the concept. as a blogger / disco hero it will be interesting to see whether they go bat shit crazy or not.

Can’t be easy content managing from a phone – typing etc will take a helluva lot longer on one of those typo-inducing touch pads. Really interested to see if this is pulled off. Kudos for a great marketing concept though.

very nice idea. if only they could order MacDonalds from it and have it go the loo for them. life. tick!

Great idea, but will it help LG sell more smartphones? No

Anon – if amplified properly it could help. I’d be promoting this using other media as the concept is cool but if it’s only to a small group of Surry Hills dudes it may not realise its potential.
Anyway, I like it and I think the beauty of it is that it promotes Pedestrian more than it does the phone.

The smartphone market is incredibly cluttered and LG’s credentials can’t be particularly strong in terms of branding and awareness. All manufacturers are battling the juggernaut that is Apple and at least this is a reasonably unique idea that may capture some peoples attentions. It really does depend on the amplification of the project to ensure it can reach the widest possible audience but being in the middle of Westfield isn’t a bad start.

Pedestrian is soooo 3 years a ago…..
So niche, Black skinny jeans, nerdy glasses, trendy hipster Surry Hills audience…
