Lion restructures marketing team following promotion of Matt Tapper to global role

LionAlcohol manufacturer Lion has restructured its operations following the promotion of Matt Tapper to the role of managing director for global markets for the company’s beer, cider and wine division.

The changes sees Tapper’s old role split across three people with Tayna Marler appointed marketing director with responsibility for major brands XXXX, Tooheys, Hahn, James Boags and Lion’s international premium brands, Gordon Treanor has been appointed marketing director – craft and cider, while Ben Slocombe takes marketing director of category and planning, with responsibility for category, shopper, planning and insights, and Lion’s beer and cider category strategies.

James Brindley Lion beer, spirits & wine managing director said the three new roles of three marketing leadership roles were designed to help the company capitalise on opportunities to revitalise the beer market which has been struggling in recent times.

“We are committed to revitalising the beer category and getting it back into growth,” said Brindley. “To achieve this we need to build the brands consumers demand while continuing to evolve the accessibility and relevance of the category, and we believe dedicated brand and category leadership positions will support this dual focus.”

“We also understand that our craft and cider portfolios require a different management approach to our broader beer portfolio and the appointment of a craft and cider director will ensure each receive the focus and support they need to grow.

“Tanya, Ben and Gordon have consistently delivered high quality results for Lion over many years and I congratulate them on their appointments.”

The appointments are effective from October 1.
