Lisa Davies to step down as AAP chief
Lisa Davies has resigned as CEO of Australian Associated Press, after three years in the top role.
Davies joined AAP in February 2022 from the Sydney Morning Herald, where she was editor for four years.
Last year, she helped secure $33 million in federal funding for the next three years, which AAP chair Gail Hambly called a testament to the national newswire’s “crucial role in providing independent, fact-based news.”
Davies started her career at the newswire in 2000, as an editorial assistant in Brisbane, then a cadet journalist in Sydney.
She joined the Daily Telegraph in 2004 as chief court reporter, before joining The Sydney Morning Herald, first as crime editor, then deputy editor, before being appointed editor in 2017.
“The opportunity to be CEO at the place I learned the importance of factual, impartial journalism has been an honour and a privilege,” Davies said, in a note announcing her departure.
“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved over the past three years and will always be an advocate for Australian Associated Press.”
Davies will leave AAP next month. General counsel Emma Cowdroy will be acting CEO until a replacement is found.
Cowdroy held the CEO role prior to Davies, before deciding to step into a senior executive role due to family commitments.
