Lisa Millar signs book deal with Hachette Australia

ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar has signed a book deal with Hachette Australia.

The announcement:

With her first book, Lisa Millar invites us on her inspirational journey from country girl who dreamed big, to a global foreign correspondent and now the popular co-host of the most trusted TV breakfast show in the country.

Lisa Millar is renowned for deftly managing hard-edged news and serious analysis to heart-warming stories, which saw her embraced by Australians in her latest move as ABC News Breakfast co-host. This new book published by Hachette Australia in September 2021 invites us behind the scenes of some of the biggest stories we have watched Lisa Millar on screen over the past 20 years, and is a homage to regional Australia.

Lisa Millar says, “It’s a privilege to be publishing with Hachette Australia and Louise Adler. As a child growing up in country Queensland, I dreamed of having a big life of travel and adventure. As an ABC foreign correspondent, I darted around the world at a moment’s notice, covering some of the biggest stories of this generation. But my heart has always stayed with the people and places of my childhood.

“When our worlds shrank in the shadow of the pandemic, I finally had a chance to stop, and reflect on what those years on the road taught me. The answers were a lot closer to home than I thought, and I can’t wait to share them with readers, particularly those who also know the joy of a deep connection to regional Australia.”

Hachette Australia Publisher at Large Louise Adler says, “I am delighted we managed to persuade Lisa Millar to put fingers to the laptop. She has been a presence in Australia’s homes for over two decades, sharing with us dramatic moments from across the world including executions in Singapore, bombings in Paris and terror attacks in London.

“This is the story of a girl from Kilkivan with a lifelong relationship with flying, who arrived at university in home-made animal print shorts, was enchanted by the Canberra press gallery, had a ‘moment’ with Prince Harry on the eve of his wedding, and has become the face of ABC News Breakfast. With unflinching honesty, Lisa Millar shares with us her own, very personal, life lessons that have come from confronting deep fears and facing terror. Above all this is a book about what it means to keep showing up.”
