Lisa Wilkinson to edit Ten’s new website Ten Daily
Network Ten has announced that as well as being co-presenter on The Project, Lisa Wilkinson will also be executive editor of Ten Daily, the company’s forthcoming new website.
In October, Wilkinson announced she would be stepping down from the Today Show and joining Ten’s The Project in a senior editorial and hosting role.
Ten made mention of its new site in both 2016’s and 2017’s upfronts, and has described the site as a “standalone, mobile-optimised website that will be rich in short-form video content and offer premium and exclusive entertainment, lifestyle, opinion news and sport content.”
The role is effective from next month, and the site is expected to launch early next year.
While Wilkinson made her name as editor of magazines Dolly and Cleo, she had little previous experience in digital publishing. She previously had the honorary title of editor-at-large with the Huffington Post Australia, although only filed a handful of articles before the plug was pulled on the joint venture last month.
Wilkinson will lead the editorial team at Ten Daily and contribute to the website, alongside her The Project hosting duties.
“I’m thrilled to be adding Ten Daily to my new role at Network Ten,” said Wilkinson in a statement. “The digital space is such an exciting place to be, and with so much Ten content already available, I can see a huge opportunity for Ten Daily to go to the next level as a must-visit daily digital destination.”
Network Ten general manager, digital, Liz Baldwin, added: “We are delighted that Lisa has agreed to take on this new and important role at Ten Daily, along with her role on The Project.
“With her extensive experience as a journalist and presenter across magazines, television, radio and digital media, Lisa is the perfect person to lead the editorial direction of Ten Daily.
“Ten Daily will deliver smart, snackable and highly shareable video content stories largely designed for the mobile experience. Coming to life via the website, social channels, daily newsletters and other channels, Ten Daily will capitalise on the growing demand for short-form content and give Australians a new, exciting way to connect with our content, on-air presenters and much more.”
Likely another honorary role aimed as using some digital budget to prop up her salary.
