Little Johnny ready for national tour and LA screening

Following its Melbourne Comedy Festival/VOD premiere,  Little Johnny The Movie has been selected to open the LA Comedy Festival.

“We will be making the VOD available again from the DVD release date, and once the NBN is in place this mode of delivery may form an important part of the DVD release, but currently physical discs will remain the vast majority of revenue in Australia.  In the UK and US where physical discs have been replaced more rapidly than in Australia, the immediate potential for VOD is greater and exploring marketing options to support this is one of the things we look to start now that the film has been selected for the LA Comedy Festival,” producer David Redman told Encore.

According to Redman, Instinct Entertainment wanted to find a new way to build audiences, beyond the ‘opening weekend’ release model. They wanted audiences “to hear about the movie in the same way they heard their first Little Johnny joke or Kevin Bloody Wilson song – from friends at the Footy Club or at the Pub”.

“The VOD during the Comedy Festival exposed the movie to a few thousand people, but the exposure from combining the VOD with the comedy festival was much higher.  The level of enthusiastic responses we had from the VOD and the age and location of the audience responses was pivotal in us putting together the national tour in the way we have.  The way we used VOD, like theatrical, needs to be viewed as part of the marketing and audience building of a film ahead of the DVD release,” said Redman.

In addition to the LA Comedy Festival premiere, Little Johnny The Movie will also have a national tour, screening at clubs, pubs and other venues. The tour will start in Perth on May 25, finishing in Sydney on August 1, and will include a performace by Kevin Bloody Wilson before the film.
