Little Sparrows flies to the UK
Sales agent Urban has finalised a deal with Soda Pictures for UK distribution of Yu-Hsiu Cameille Chen’s Little Sparrows; the deal includes television rights for that country’s Channel 4.
“We are unstoppable! Little Sparrows continues to attract commercial interest on an international level and I believe it is the intimate portrayal of a family and their choices as individuals that resonates across cultures,” said Chen.
“In many ways, we – as independent producers – continue to trust that great, well-told stories are what audiences want and should experience,” she added.
The film tells the story of three sisters. Nina is widowed with two young children. Anna is an aspiring actress unhappily married to a filmmaker. Christine is a med student who is yet to fully come to terms with her sexuality. When their mother Susan’s breast cancer returns, the family is faced with choices and the reality of their last Christmas together.
Little Sparrows will screen at the 17th London Australian Film Festival at the Barbican, alongside Mao’s Last Dancer, Animal Kingdom and Tomorrow, When the War Began. In Australia, the film will have a limited release at Perth’s Cinema Paradiso starting May 5.
